Landscapes
The healthy landscapes project is committed to the development of aesthetic and diverse natural landscapes in the community. A key objective in reaching this goal is to showcase and celebrate inspiring examples, in and around Truro, of landscapes and lawns that have been developed with native species, pesticide-free maintenance and sound soil practices.
One approach to modeling good practices is to create a natural landscape in a public space, possibly in downtown Truro, with an sign/kiosk of information.
Another important objective in the project is the promotion of good policy concerning the sale and use of pesticides. While Nova Scotia has recently adopted legislation banning the use of pesticides, it is important to ensure policies are protecting the health of citizens, and the natural biodiversity of our communities.
