Welcome
The Living Earth Council promotes and initiates actions to benefit our local environment. Through community connections, public discussion and the exploration of ideas, LEC is a catalyst for sustainable change in Truro and surrounding communities.
Background:
The Living Earth Council (LEC) is a grassroots organization based in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. We’ve been active since early 2007.
LEC started with two families wondering over dinner what could open the way for people in Truro to work together for a sustainable future. A broad range of residents from Truro and beyond have joined to support our vision of LEC as a powerful catalyst for social and environmental transformation. Our mission is to be a community-based organization that inspires innovative action to create a vibrant, sustainable future for our community and our planet.
LEC is about creating connections and promoting celebrations across social and cultural groups. Youth engagement and empowerment is also important to us. By making a positive impact on our local environment we seek to spread some solutions to global environmental problems, such as climate change. We hope our projects will promote health and well-being, local community-building, and enjoyment of our living earth.
LEC seeks to involve people from all walks of life in community projects and activities. To us, a sustainable future means exploring new ways in which our society might function as a whole: how we produce and get our food, what methods of transportation we use, how we reduce our carbon footprints, and how we manage our landscapes. Sustainability also includes enjoying each other socially and appreciating each other culturally. It includes considering people, and even other life forms, that often get left out of our decision-making.
